Can you explain what self inflating means? I just want a comfortable DB bush camping mattress we can fold up with less bulk as possible but I don't want stuff that requires effort or maintainance if it doesn't work. We are remote bush campers and want a minimal but comfortable mattress to sleep on, Can u help?

The Self inflating mat is a piece of open celled foam inside a pvc airtight cover . When you want to deflate it you roll it up very tightly and squeeze all of the air out from inside the foam , there are valves on the end of the mat which you lock off to create a vaccuum seal . Then when you want it to inflate again you just open the valves and the foam springs back into shape sucking the air back inside the mat. There is no pump required. They also insulate very well from the cold, and very comfortable for a camp bed!! THere are a different styles of self inflateing mat , the main difference is the size when the are rolled up . The4wd liesure mats are bigger and cheaper , brands like EPE and thermarest are much more compact. Cheers hope this helps Jasmin Kellys Camping
